I believe in providing personalized care that empowers my patients to see the world clearly and live their lives to the fullest.

Board-Certified Ophthalmologist

Christina Kytasty, DO, is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist renowned for her expertise in comprehensive eye care, cataract surgery, glaucoma management, and dry eye treatment. Graduating with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Kytasty continued to excel in her field, serving as President of the Ophthalmology Club and earning numerous accolades, including scholarships from the American Academy of Ophthalmology Advocacy Ambassador Program.

Patients may wonder about the differences between an MD ophthalmologist and a DO ophthalmologist. Both types of doctors undergo extensive training and can provide high-quality eye care, but there are some distinctions worth noting:

  1. Training Background: MDs and DOs follow different paths in medical education. MDs attend traditional medical schools, while DOs go to osteopathic medical schools where they also learn about osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), a hands-on approach to health care.
  2. Philosophy of Care: DOs often emphasize a holistic approach to patient care, considering not only the specific eye condition but also the patient’s overall well-being, lifestyle, and environmental factors.
  3. Residency Training: Both MDs and DOs can specialize in ophthalmology through residency programs that focus on diagnosing, treating, and managing eye conditions, including surgeries and preventive care.
  4. Board Certification: After completing residency, both MDs and DOs can become board-certified ophthalmologists by passing the same rigorous exams administered by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO).

In essence, whether a patient sees an MD or a DO ophthalmologist at Eye Care of La Jolla, they can expect expert care and treatment tailored to their individual needs. Both types of doctors have the skills and qualifications to diagnose and manage various eye conditions effectively.
